Vishal Rana / builder's field notes

I build systemsthat remember, scale, and survive.

Architecture is a promise: the product should still feel effortless when the edge cases arrive.

00 / Working thesis

I work where complexity becomes a product.

For more than nine years, I've designed backend platforms, cloud systems, data layers, developer standards, and the teams around them.

Today I'm a Principal Engineer and the founder of Chela—a voice-first external memory system built from a belief that software should remove cognitive work, not create more of it.

Tech lead · Platform engineering

Skyloov

Scalable backend and frontend systems for UAE property discovery, listings, and management—including a Python image pipeline that made GB-scale 360° property views practical on the web.

Jungle

A working NFT marketplace for listing and trading digital assets. I led primarily on the backend and contributed to the smart-contract layer behind marketplace transactions.

release-vr

A CLI that automates assembling release branches from tagged GitHub or GitLab work—ordering and cherry-picking the relevant changes so release PRs are faster and less error-prone.

Trajectory

Responsibility, compounded over time.

Principal Engineer

Caremonitor

Re-architecting high-availability backend systems, serverless AWS infrastructure, delivery automation, observability, and engineering standards.

Technical Lead

Rapid Innovation

Led a cross-functional team of ten engineers building secure microservices and decentralized products with TypeScript, Solidity, Docker, and AWS.

Senior Software Engineer → Tech Lead

Codezeros

Built high-throughput services in Golang and Node.js, scalable AWS microservices, Redis caching layers, and MongoDB data systems.

Backend Developer

Independent

Delivered APIs, graph data models, caching strategies, and production test foundations for global clients.

Field notes

The ideas under continuous construction.

K.01

Distributed systems

Designing for failure, asynchronous boundaries, idempotency, and the realities that appear after the happy path.

K.02

Cloud architecture

Serverless systems, queues, observability, deployment safety, and infrastructure that earns its complexity.

K.03

AI memory

How unstructured voice becomes useful context, action, recall, and a quieter relationship with information.

K.04

Performance engineering

Finding leverage in data access, caching, service boundaries, payloads, and the measurements that matter.

K.05

Engineering leadership

Standards, review culture, mentoring, and decision systems that help teams ship without accumulating chaos.

K.06

Product building

Turning personal friction into software—from first-principles problem framing to a product people can actually use.
